"Diaper Baggies"

Mommies and Daddies, the long wait is over. One mom, and a growing series of diaper baggies later has perfected this very task. Live interview below.

Hi Diaper baggies Mother of two, how are you? Things a bit rosy ever since the bag invention? Tell us some of the dirtiest tricks of the mommy trade which you have tried to conceal the soiled diapers? Any embarrassing moments?
At my pediatrician’s office! Most pediatricians these days will not allow you to discard of a soiled diaper during your visit. Makes sense, because of course, they don’t want their offices to reek of dirty diapers! Well on this particular visit, my daughter needed a diaper change.

The signs were posted all over the office “Do not dispose of soiled diapers in the office – Please use the dumpster in the parking lot” I quickly changed my daughters diaper before the Doctor came in and then taped it as tight as possible and stuffed it all the way to the bottom of the diaper bag in one of those little blue dirty diaper bags! Of course, at the time I did not have Diaper Baggies. Unfortunately, half way through the appointment I started to smell the odor and seeping from my diaper bag and I cringed in embarrassment the entire time. Luckily, the Doctor never questioned me! As soon as I could, I rushed out to the dumpster and then went straight to buy a new Diaper Bag.

When did you say, “Thats it, I have had enough”? What was the last straw, what did it for you?
It was the latter experience and a few times where I got caught unprepared at friend’s homes (whom had no children) that made me start to lose my patience with the lack of secure/odor-free diaper disposal. However, the last straw was when I could no longer take the smell of changing a diaper pail with 3 day old diapers. The smell would fill the room and it was so unpleasant to change no matter how many times I sterilized and washed it out!

I guess you jet set off to baby R Us, but to no avail, nothing was available, or at least convenient? How did this mommy invention come into play? And speed bumps along the road?
After, I became fed up with cheap plastic bags and diaper pails, I started to think about what I could use to discard diapers. I knew 3 things right away; it had to some how lock in the smell and the contents; it couldn’t be clear because it needed to conceal the contents and finally, it had to be cute so that If I were at a someone’s home, I wouldn’t be embarrassed to put it in their trash! The challenging part came when I realized that getting Diaper Baggies made to my exact specifications was not so easy. Some manufacturers could half of what I needed but not all of what I needed. This slowed the process down significantly until I was able to find the one that could meet all of my needs!

The bags are disposable, and come in a package of 40, what is a difficult and pricey process to make sure they were environmentally friendly?
Making the bags environmentally friendly was certainly a task and a bit pricey. There didn’t seem to be many manufacturers out there that made bags out of recycled plastic. Then the ones that did couldn’t meet all of the specifications, such as printing detailed designs, a secure zipper, and opaque and complete packaging as well.

How do they close?
Zipper Closure

How many designs do you have available?
Currently there are two designs and we’ll be releasing the next two in the next few months. They take quite a while to manufacturer.

Can you tell us a little bit about the designer?
As both the owner and designer, I’d like to consider myself creative, innovative, passionate, and a risk-taker. I love color, simplicity and practicality - in a stylish way. I’m always up for a challenge. I’m an action-oriented person who finds pleasure in the ordinary as well as the unique.

Any new products on the horizon?
We actually have a completely new product that we will be introducing in the next 3-4 weeks. It’s something that all of us can enjoy and appreciate! But we can’t spill the beans on that one just yet. It’s a surprise!

For moms out there, what advice can you share with them if they are thinking of a mom invention?
For other moms out there who have an idea for an invention, I say just do it. You will never know what can happen unless you try it. You have to be a doer because dreaming can only get you so far.

Now. Lets have some fun, what is a major fashion mommy don’t?
Don’t wear jeans above your belly button or so low that they show things that shouldn’t be showing.

What is a fashion Mommy approved do?
Do wear color! I love to see a mom with a few kids who has a cute red snazzy top or a colorful purse and shoes! Moms don’t have to be boring. We can still be casual and cute too!

You are set, packed and ready to go on an all mom and kids road trip, which 3 Hollywood A-listers would you bring with you and why?
I’d love to bring along Will Smith to keep us cracking up laughing and entertained, Beyonce to keep us groovin’ and Salma Hayek because she seems so real and down to earth and the kids would enjoy practicing their Spanish with her!

If you turned your purse upside down, what what we find?
Mints, gum, hand sanitizer, hand lotion, dental floss, a camera, cell phone, my kids ID Digicards, a tip card, kid snacks, checkbook/debit card, lip glosses, business cards, and tampons

What should a woman never leave home without?
A tampon and a tube of lip gloss

What are your two favorite meals to cook under 10 minutes, and kid friendly?
My favorite meals to cook in less than 10 minutes would be chicken alfredo with pasta and broccoli or grilled cheese sandwiches with fruit and veggies.
